Auger, Volumetric or Pump? Picking the Filler That Won’t Drift

Dose accuracy is a product property first

How a product flows decides how you can measure it. Pick the filler against flow behavior and you get stable doses. Pick against price and you get drift, complaints, and giveaway.

Augur filler: fine powders

An auger turns volume into a metered screw rotation, ideal for fine, low-density powders like protein, flour blends, and many oral-pouch formulas. It tolerates dust and gives good accuracy on tricky flow. The cost is cleaning time between products and sensitivity to powder compaction.

Volumetric cup: free-flow granules

Cups measure by volume and suit uniform granules that flow freely, salt, sugar, rinses. They are fast, cheap, and easy to clean. They hate irregular or bridging product, where one cup packs differently from the next.

Pump filler: liquids and pastes

Positive-displacement or piston pumps own liquids, gels, and pastes. They handle viscosity and keep dose by volume regardless of film. The trade is more contact parts to sanitize and tighter seal timing on wet product.

How we stop drift before it starts

We run a 30-minute warm-up dose check on commissioning, log the first 100 doses, and set the tolerance band with you, not to a catalog number. For pharma and GMP runs this is built into the line validation. The filler choice is step one; the check protocol is what keeps it honest.

Send us your product sample and target dose, and we will run it on the three fillers and show you the spread, not just claim an accuracy number.
